Michael Szarek, PhD is a visiting professor in the Division of Cardiology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, as well as a faculty member of CPC Clinical Research, an Academic Research Organization affiliated with the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.
Dr. Szarek earned a MS in biostatistics from Harvard School of Public Health and a PhD in biostatistics from New York University. While at Harvard, he was a Schering Plough Scholar and recipient of a National Cancer Institute (NCI) National Research Service Award training grant.
Prior to joining CPC, Dr. Szarek was Professor and Chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics in the School of Public Health at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. During his career, he has supported and served as a member of Executive Steering Committees and Data Safety Monitoring Committees for multiple landmark clinical trials, including MIRACL, SPRACL, CARDS, IDEAL, TNT, ILLUMINATE, ODYSSEY OUTCOMES, BETonMACE, SOLOIST, and SCORED. Dr. Szarek has also held regulatory affairs leadership positions in industry, including filing five INDs for cancer therapeutics and leading interactions with worldwide regulatory agencies in multiple therapeutic areas.
Dr. Szarek is currently a statistical editor for the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC) and JACC – Cardiovascular Interventions.
